Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) announced Wednesday that the House Appropriations Committee preliminarily approved $200,000 in funding for American Gold Shield, Inc., a non-profit high school drug and violence prevention project. The funding was approved by the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies for Fiscal Year (FY) 2011.
Funding will provide additional program development and training to teach children and teens to resist drugs. American Shield, Inc. consists of community, government and law enforcement leaders who come together to collaborate services to serve children, teens and communities across New Jersey.
“Prevention programs like this one are key to helping our youth make good decisions and stay away from drug usage,” said Pallone. “Prevention programs also save the state funds that would be spent on rehabilitation programs later on. I will continue to fight for this funding as it moves for further approval in the Appropriations Committee, and for a final vote in the House of Representatives.”
Congressman Pallone also secured an additional $800,000 to benefit youth affected by violence and sexual assault and at risk youth in Monmouth County.
The bill will now be considered by the full House Appropriations Committee.
