PALLONE ANNOUNCES AVON-BY-THE-SEA RECIPIENT OF
HOMELAND SECURITY FIRE GRANT |

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) announced that the Avon-by-the-Sea Volunteer Fire Department received $261,250 in funding provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The money will be spent to purchase a new fire truck for the fire department which serves approximately 3,000 Avon residents and regularly provides assistance to neighboring communities.
“Better equipment will better serve and protect the Avon-by-the-Sea community in emergency situations,” said Pallone. “Our fire fighters and first responders deserve the best possible tools we can provide while they risk their lives to protect us every day.”
“The volunteer firefighters in Avon-by-the-Sea are excited and extremely grateful to receive this grant which will be used to replace a fire truck that has helped us put out fires since 1978,” said Avon-by-the-Sea Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief, Steve Kegelman.
The AFG program is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of Homeland Security and is part of a coordinated effort to improve the nation’s ability to respond to emergency situations.
So far this year, the DHS Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program has given over $682,000 in funding to fire departments and first responders in the Sixth Congressional District.
In Fiscal Year 2009, the Program awarded approximately $565 million directly to fire departments and EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards.
