PALLONE REQUESTS FULL FUNDING OF STORM PROTECTION AND BEACH REPLENISHMENT PROJECTS

Washington, D.C. -- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., released the following statement Monday urging the importance of fully funding programs that protect New Jersey’s shore communities and coastline, in light of this weekend’s nor’easter storm which caused massive power outages, widespread flooding, and shore erosion.

“Although the full extent of this weekend’s storm is still being assessed, New Jersey’s beaches have been hard hit by storms this winter, which shows the importance of fully funding beach replenishment projects.

“Through the Congressional budget process, I plan to advocate for critical funding for New Jersey’s most vulnerable shore communities.  These projects include funding for beach replenishment from Sandy Hook to Barnegat Inlet and storm damage reduction projects in the Bayshore.  Increased funding for these projects, and many others in the 6th Congressional district, will help to repair damage from recent storms and provide a safety net for local communities.”

“As families begin to think about heading to New Jersey beaches this summer, it’s important to have healthy beaches for them to visit. Without significant funding for these projects, our shore communities are at risk for losing thousands of tourism related jobs, as well as risking the stability of coastal buildings and structures.”
