New Jersey Receives Recovery Act Funds for Clean Energy Jobs Creation

Washington, D.C. - The Department of Labor Wednesday announced the recipients of the Energy Training Partnership grant awards authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  The International Transportation Learning Center received $5 million and the Utility Workers Union of America received $4.9 million in funding, some of which will be applied to training and job creation in New Jersey.

“Clean energy jobs are a burgeoning part of New Jersey’s economy and this money will train workers so that they are prepared to meet the demands of these positions” said U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr.

Numerous funds that were allocated to the International Transportation Learning Center will provide training to NJ Transit and ATU New Jersey Council workers. Apprenticeships and certifications will assist stakeholders in designing or enhancing programs that incorporate renewable energy, energy efficiency and other green-related technologies and skills.

Funds allocated to the UWUA will benefit workers affected by automotive industry restructuring.  This program will provide skills training on wind generation technology, solar technology, weatherization and more.

“There will now be more trained workers in the pipeline who are prepared to take on these new jobs. This is just one example of how Recovery Act money is working for New Jersey,” said Pallone.

New Jersey has received $3.8 billion in Recovery Act money and so far, and 24,108 jobs have been created.
