Emerson Congratulates USGS Rolla for Work and Service  – June 11, 2010
WASHINGTON   –  U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) expressed her support for the Rolla USGS as they open the Rolla Federal Center, celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Topographic Map, and host a picnic for former employees and retirees.

“This is a great series of occasions for USGS Rolla, but they are truly deserving of the successes they’re celebrating in our community today and tomorrow,” Emerson said.  “The expertise of the USGS in Rolla, their dedication to serving the nation, and their great relationship with our community are all reasons we are extremely proud of their presence here.”

Emerson urged everyone in the area to learn more about the contributions of USGS and map products to the nation.

“USGS continues to take on more responsibility, and the Rolla Federal Center is a facility that demonstrates the growth and success of our federal workforce in Rolla.  The 125th Anniversary of the Topographic Map is a great way to learn about the value of mapping our nation, to prepare for and to respond to disasters, and to provide public information about the nation we live in.

“The biggest strength of USGS Rolla is the people who have built their international reputation for excellence and the people who continue that tradition with innovative, technological advancements today.  It’s wonderful we have USGS in Rolla, and it is important that we keep them here and keep growing their mission,”Emerson said.
