Davis Announces $750,000 for Obed National Wild & Scenic RiverOctober 30, 2003

-- U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis announced that H.R. 2691, the FY 04 Interior Appropriations bill, contained $750,000 for the acquisition of 1,186 acres for Obed National Wild & Scenic River.

"As a child I was able to enjoy the beauty of this area and I want other generations to be able to enjoy it as well," Davis said. "This funding preserves this environmentally critical habitat."

The Obed National Wild & Scenic River was established in 1976 to protect the unique scenic, recreational, and biological resources of the Cumberland Plateau region. Congressman Davis submitted a request to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior Chairman and Ranking Member in support, asking them to fully fund this project.

"The Obed National Wild & Scenic River is a recreational and ecological jewel on the Cumberland Plateau," Davis noted.
