Alexander Digests New Health Care Bill
Congressman Alexander digests the latest health care plan, H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act:
“The 1,990 page bill includes the government-run ‘public option,’ cuts Medicare benefits for seniors, and raises taxes on middle class families, all of which I will continue to oppose in any changes to our health care system. In addition, H.R 3962 does not protect the interests of small businesses nor does it adequately address defensive medicine. And, in the midst of states struggling with fiscal constraints, it will burden them with more unfunded mandates from the federal government.
“This latest proposal may have a different name, but even with a new title, this legislation remains a government-takeover of health care that will raise taxes, increase our national debt, and put important health decisions in the hands of bureaucrats instead of individuals and their doctors.”

V Vehicle Announcement
Rep. Rodney Alexander attended the V Vehicle announcement at the former Guide plant in Ouachita Parish yesterday. The new auto manufacturer is expected to generate 1,400 direct jobs, as well as 1,800 indirect jobs, producing nearly $20 billion in economic activity during the first 15 years of production.

“This announcement demonstrates that Louisiana steps up to the plate when competing for new growth opportunities,” said Alexander. “This project will transform our economy and create good-paying jobs for our talented workforce, and, undoubtedly will ensure this growth and opportunity continues well into the future.
“Not only is this the largest economic development project happening in the country, but it is equally as exciting to see Northeast Louisiana on the front steps of change in the automotive industry.
“I have learned that you can never sit back and wait for things to get better. I loudly applaud our governmental officials and James Davison for rolling up our sleeves, working together and making this happen. We cannot afford to wait for economic recovery to find its way to us…we have to go out ourselves and get it.”

Take Hurricane Precautions Now
With the 2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season beginning today, June 1, all families need to take precautions now.
Important steps for residents to take include assembling a disaster supply kit and making a Family Disaster Plan.
Communities can reduce the effects of a hurricane disaster by recognizing vulnerabilities and knowing what actions to take. I hope all families plan ahead.
In Congress, I will continue to work on rebuilding and sustaining the Gulf Coast region. I have supported recent efforts to further streamline federal response to devastation, rebuild vital public infrastructure, and create opportunities for economic growth.
As a representative of a state that is consistently battered by devastating hurricanes, it is my duty to ensure concrete progress is made toward expediting the recovery process, and that our citizens are prepared as possible. As always, my staff and I are here to help if you have any questions or concerns about hurricane preparedness.
