CAPITOL VISITOR CENTER MEDIA PREVIEW

(Washington, D.C.) Ms. Terrie S. Rouse, CEO for Visitor Services, announced today that the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center will be open for a special media preview on Monday, November 10. Credentialed media representatives are invited to attend a brief news conference hosted by Rouse and Stephen T. Ayers, AIA, Acting Architect of the Capitol. Tours of the facility will follow, along with the opportunity to view the 13-minute orientation film, “Out of Many, One.” Highlights of the guided tours include Emancipation Hall, the Exhibition Hall, two Gift Shops, the Restaurant, and the two Orientation Theaters. The Capitol Visitor Center will open to the public on Tuesday, December 2, 2008.

WHERE: U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. Access via First Street & Maryland Ave. NE – West curb access to East Front (see attached map)

The press conference will occur in the upper level east lobby overlooking Emancipation Hall (see attached diagram).

Camera crews may enter from 8 a.m. thru 9:15 a.m. for set-up. There will be no access to the Visitor Center after 9:30 a.m. Photography and video will be permitted, but will be prohibited in the Visitor Center entrance zone and the Orientation Theater during the film presentation. Flash photography and video lights will be prohibited in the Exhibition Hall due to the potential damage to historic documents. Tri-pods will be restricted to the press conference set-up area only.
