Grant Information

I receive many letters and calls from West Virginians seeking funding support for individual and community projects. From after-school arts programs for children to the expansion of rural hospital services, these projects provide excellent resources for our communities. The first step in gaining support for them is exploring the many potential funding sources available to grant seekers. Government programs, private foundations, and corporate donors all offer assistance to community projects.

Often, however, it is difficult to navigate the maze of organizations, government agencies, and paperwork inherent in this process, and that's where my office can help. Please feel free to contact my Charleston office with any questions or ideas you may have.

Also, included on this page are several helpful Web sites that detail federal and private funding sources, along with information about how to initiate and complete a successful grant proposal.

Click here for more information on Federal Grants.

The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA)
The CFDA contains information about financial and non-financial assistance programs administered by the departments and agencies of the federal government. It is the primary source of information about federal grant programs.

The Foundation Center
This gateway provides information about the grant-seeking process, private funding sources (including national, state, community, and corporate foundations), guidelines on writing a grant proposal, addresses of state libraries with grant reference collections, and links to other useful Internet sites. The Center maintains a comprehensive database on foundation grantsmanship, publishes print and CD-ROM directories and guides, and offers a variety of training and educational seminars.

The Grantsmanship Center
This site includes information on community foundations and international funding. Listed by state, these community foundations maintain diverse grant programs and are often particularly interested in local projects. They may also serve as a resource for grant information and may provide training and technical assistance for local nonprofit organizations. TGCI also offers publications, training, and workshops in proposal writing, grantsmanship, and fundraising to nonprofit organizations and government.

Nonprofit Gateway (Grants and Non-Financial Support, Federal agencies)
This page is a collection of direct links to the Grants and Non-Financial Support Home Pages of various federal agencies.

U.S. Business Advisor (Loans and Grants)
The U.S. Business Advisor exists to provide businesses with one-stop access to federal government information, services, and transactions. The Loans and Grants section of the Finance page contains information on obtaining funds from the U.S. Departments of Transportation, Energy, Commerce, and Agriculture, and the National Science Foundation, Small Business Administration, and National Institute of Science and Technology.
