LIEBERMAN STATEMENT ON NATIONAL COMMISSION ON FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY AND REFORM

12.02.10

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Joe Lieberman today issued the following statement on the report issued by the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform:

“I commend the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform and its leadership, Mr. Erskine Bowles and Senator Alan Simpson, for their bold and useful recommendations to address our nation’s debt problem. They have performed an invaluable service for America by putting the nation’s interests before special interests.

“This report lays out steps for our country to take to get our fiscal house back in order. The commission’s recommendations once again remind us of the scope and extent of the extremely difficult choices we will have to make in the coming years. I believe we can address these challenges, and I know that we must.

“While I may have differences with specific pieces of the proposals that the commission has offered, it is clear that this report offers a comprehensive and useful blueprint from which we can start to combat a problem that threatens the future of our families and nation. Now is the time for Congress to act on a bipartisan basis to adopt constructive proposals that will reduce the debt and preserve our fiscal future.”
