Haiti Earthquake

On Tuesday, January 12, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake ravaged the nation of Haiti.  I continue to pray for the people of Haiti in the aftermath of the horrendous earthquake that has devastated their country, and I am heartened by the outpouring of cash donations, supplies and medical volunteers from America and from across the globe.

There are still many Americans who are missing in Haiti, including some from Georgia. I have sent a letter to the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense and the Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development requesting that each of them do everything in their power to continue the search and rescue mission as long as possible and make sure that every American missing in Haiti is accounted for and returned home.

***Anyone seeking information about U.S. citizens in Haiti can e-mail the State Department at Haiti-Earthquake@state.gov. For updated travel alert and situation information, please visit http://www.state.gov/p/wha/ci/ha/earthquake/index.htm.***

The U.S. Embassy in Port Au Prince has set up a task force at the Embassy, which is taking calls as conditions permit. The Embassy is working to identify U.S. citizens in Haiti who need urgent assistance and to identify sources of emergency help.
