American Engineering and Manufacturing in Amherst
To Collaborate with Brush Wellman in Elmore
A Lorain County firm, American Engineering and Manufacturing, Inc., has received a $6.6 million contract from the U.S. Army, Congresswoman Kaptur announced this afternoon.
American Engineering and Manufacturing, located in Amherst, was chosen by the U.S. Army to integrate atomized magnesium powder production at beryllium facilities using similar engineered equipment in order to reduce the cost of production to the government.
“I am pleased that the Army has awarded this contract to American Engineering and Manufacturing to allow our region to get the job done in strategic metals production and help meet the defense industrial needs of our military,” said Congresswoman Kaptur.
Congresswoman Kaptur issued this statement following the Department of Labor's report of the November unemployment rate:
"Congress and the Administration have to attack the jobs crisis in America. We have a deficit reduction commission, but what we really is need is a job growth commission. Job creation must be the top priority of the government. Congress seems to be dealing with everything except job creation right now."
Toledo’s Refinery in Line for Major Capital Investment to Process Canadian Crude
Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur today welcomed the announcement by BP that it has given the final go-ahead to develop a major new source of energy in the heartland of Canada.
An oil sands project in Alberta will mean a major capital investment in the BP refinery in Toledo, which will process the crude oil into transportation fuels such as gasoline.
"I am extremely pleased with the announcement that BP has given the green light for the Sunrise project in Alberta," said Congresswoman Kaptur.
"Continentally, the Alberta sands deposits hold vast potential to yield new reserves as large as two Gulfs of Mexico. This is likely to mean substantial jobs and economic development in our community for many years to come."
The first phase of BP’s Alberta project, on which construction will begin next month, will produce 60,000 barrels of oil per day, with a potential throughput of 400,000 barrels a day.
