WHITE HOUSE TOUR INFORMATION

The White House is a popular spot for tourists from all over the world to visit while they are in Washington, DC.  Below you will find important information about the White House tour and the request process.  Be sure to read this information in its entirety.

To request a tour of the White House you must meet these guidelines:

• Be a constituent of Pennsylvania’s 2nd Congressional District
• Have at least 10 people in your party (there are no exceptions)
• Requested tour date must be submitted at least 30 days in advance.

Taking the following steps will increase the likelihood of securing a White House tour:

• Request a tour date SIX months in advance
• Request more than ONE date
• Tours are offered Tuesdays – Saturdays; request a day OTHER than a Saturday as it is the most requested date.

Facts about White House tours:

• White House tours are free of charge
• White House tours are NOT guaranteed
• Tours are approved on a first come, first served basis
• White House tours may be subject to last minute cancellation
• All White House tours are self-guided, last approximately 20 minutes and are available from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
• Final approval for all tour requests is at the sole discretion of the White House Visitors Center
• If your tour has been approved you will receive a call from Congressman Fattah’s office requesting security information.  This call will come at least one week in advance of the requested tour date.  Failure to receive such a call means your tour was denied
• Security information will not be taken prior to tour approval
• If a tour has not been approved 14 days prior to the requesting date it is likely the tour will be denied.

After requesting a White House tour you should:

• Call the Fattah office tour coordinator at 202.225.4001 two weeks prior to the requested date to check on the status of the tour
• Include visits to other tourist attractions to ensure you receive the most from your trip to the nation’s capital
• The office of Congressman Fattah advises that you NOT reserve transportation until AFTER your tour has been approved

CAPITOL TOUR INFORMATION

Wonderful public tours of the United States Capitol are given by tour guides from the office of the Architect of the Capitol.  These guides are very informative and visitors of all ages will enjoy hearing and seeing this important piece of American history.  Below you will find some information regarding Capitol tours.

The Capitol is open to the public for guided tours only.  Tours are conducted 9:00am-4:30pm Monday through Saturday.  Visitors in small groups can obtain free tickets for tours on a first come, first served basis, at the Capitol Guide Service kiosk located outside the Capitol right off of Independence Ave.  During peak season, it is advised that you plan your trip to the Capitol early in the day as to avoid the rush.

Tours for groups of six or fewer citizens to the United States Mint in Philadelphia  may be arranged through our District Office at (215) 387-6404.

Larger tours of students and youth groups (grades kindergarten through 12), and organized military and veteran groups may be arranged through the Office of Exhibits and Public Services at the Philadelphia Mint at (215) 408-0112, by appointment only. Two weeks advance notice is required for scheduling and security purposes.
