White House Confirms President’s Visit to Guam

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today announced that the White House has confirmed in a media briefing that President Obama will be visiting Guam on Monday, March 22, 2010 and departing Guam on Tuesday, March 23, 2010.  President Obama will be stopping on Guam en route to Indonesia and Australia.  The President’s trip to the Asia-Pacific region will be from March 22, 2010 to March 26, 2010.

“Barring some unforeseen complication, we have White House confirmation to the media today that President Obama will be stopping on Guam and staying overnight,” Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo said today. “The President late last week delayed his departure to help Congress pass health care reform legislation this week.  President Obama will make a speech at a public event on Guam, but no further details have been released.  I support the President’s initiative to reduce the high energy costs on Guam through investments in renewable and sustainable energy.  The President’s visit will focus attention on Guam and our role in regional security.  It is also an opportunity for the Obama Administration to engage with us on the issues important to our community.  I join the people of Guam in extending a warm Hafa Adai to the President and I hope that he takes the opportunity to meet our people and to learn what makes our community a special part of America.”
