Congresswoman Bordallo Reacts to President Obama’s Speech on End to War in Iraq

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today issued the following statement on President Barack Obama’s speech regarding the final draw down of U.S. forces in Iraq and the President’s plan for U.S. engagement in Iraq:

“I applaud the outstanding efforts of our men and women in uniform who served their nation in Iraq,” Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo said today.  “President Obama made a special effort to recognize their efforts during his speech this evening and it’s important that our nation never forget the sacrifices that they made on our behalf.  In particular, I appreciate the outstanding service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform from Guam.  In particular, servicemembers from our Guam National Guard and Reserves, as well as many men and women from Guam on active duty, have served on numerous tours in Iraq.  We shall never forget what they’ve done for our nation.  It is important for the readiness of our military forces that the President followed through on his commitment to have a complete withdrawal of combat forces by today.   While there is still much work left to be done in order to bring stability to the region, the Administration continues to build on the progress that has been made in transferring control to the Iraqi people and bolstering our nation’s diplomatic efforts in Iraq.”
