Guam International Airport Receives $7.7 Million from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the Guam International Airport Authority three separate grants totaling more than $7.7 million.  Two grants totaling $5.5 million were awarded for the design and extension of runway 06L/24R.  The Guam International Airport Authority will be extending the runway by 1,000 feet to accommodate current and projected air carrier demands.  A final grant for $2.2 million was awarded to the Guam International Airport Authority for the relocation and installation of a new precision instrument land system on runway 06L/24R.

“The federal funds received today from the Federal Aviation Administration demonstrate a continuing commitment to the Guam International Airport Authority in expanding to meet the demands of our visitor industry,” Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo said today. “The extension of runway 06L/24R will allow the Guam International Airport Authority to accommodate larger, more long-range aircraft which could open up routes to new locations that would service the Guam International Airport.  I commend GIAA for their work and I look forward to these federal funds benefitting our island’s airport.”

Guam International Airport Authority Chairman Martin H. Gerber said, “We appreciate FAA’s continued confidence in building aviation infrastructure for the people of Guam.  Our aim is to provide the necessary facility using FAA grants to attract transpacific flights from Guam and expand air services for the region.”
