LEGISLATIVE DAY OF JANUARY 5, 2010
111TH CONGRESS - SECOND SESSION

12:05 P.M. -
The Speaker announced that the House do now adjourn pursuant to H. Res. 976. The next meeting is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on January 12, 2010.

ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE CHAIR - Pursuant to section 9 of H.Res. 976, 111th Congress, the Chair announced that no organizational or legislative business is transacted on this day. The Chair further announced that bills and resolutions introduced today will be numbered today but would not be noted in the Record or referred until January 12, 2010.

12:04 P.M. -
ADJUSTMENT OF WHOLE HOUSE - Under Clause 5(d) of Rule XX, the Chair announced that, in light of the resignation of the gentleman from Florida, Mr. Wexler, the whole number of the House is 434.

The House received a message from the Clerk. Pursuant to the permission granted in Clause 2(h) of Rule II of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Clerk notified the House that she had received a message from the Secretary of the Senate on December 24, 2009, at 10:56 a.m. stating that that body had passed H.R. 3590 with amendments.

12:03 P.M. -
The House received a message from the Clerk. Pursuant to the permission granted in Clause 2(h) of Rule II of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Clerk notified the House that she had received a message from the Secretary of the Senate on December 24, 2009, at 10:31 a.m. stating that that body had agreed to H.Con.Res. 223.

The House received a message from the Clerk. Pursuant to the permission granted in Clause 2(h) of Rule II of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Clerk notified the House that she had received a message from the Secretary of the Senate on December 24, 2009, at 8:14 a.m. stating that that body had passed H.R. 730 with an amendment; H.R. 3819, and H.R. 4314.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - The Chair led the House in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Today's prayer was offered by Reverend Clete Kiley, Faith and Politics Institute, Washington, DC.

12:00 P.M. -
The Speaker designated the Honorable Donna F. Edwards to act as Speaker pro tempore for today.
