7:13 P.M. -
The House received a message from the Clerk. Pursuant to the permission granted in Clause 2(h) of Rule II of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Clerk notified the House that she had received a sealed envelope from the White House on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 4:28 p.m. The envelope is said to contain a message from the President whereby he submits a copy of a notice filed earlier with the Federal Register continuing the emergency with respect to the situation in or in relation to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, first declared by Executive Order 13413 of October 27, 2006.

The House received a message from the Clerk. Pursuant to the permission granted in Clause 2(h) of Rule II of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Clerk notified the House that she had received a message from the Secretary of the Senate on October 20, 2009, at 5:23 p.m. stating that the Senate passed H.R. 621 and S. 1793. The message also stated that the Senate agreed to the conference report accompanying H.R. 2892.

H. Res. 558:
supporting the increased understanding of, and interest in, computer science and computing careers among the public and in schools, and to ensure an ample and diverse future technology workforce through the designation of National Computer Science Education Week

The Speaker laid before the House a message from the President transmitting a certification that Haiti has met certain eligility criteria set out in the Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity through Partnership Encouragment Actof 2008 (HOPE II) to make certain additional products from Haiti eligible for preferential tariff treatment - referred to the Committee on Ways and Means and ordered to be printed(H. Doc. 111-69).

The House received a message from the Clerk. Pursuant to the permission granted in Clause 2(h) of Rule II of the Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Clerk notified the House that she had received a sealed envelope from the White House on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 2:18 p.m. The envelope is said to contain a message from the President whereby he makes a determination and certification of Haiti's compliance with HOPE II requirements under PL 110-246.
