ADJUSTMENT OF WHOLE NUMBER OF HOUSE - Under Clause 5(d) of Rule XX, the Chair announced to the House that, in light of the resignation of the gentlewoman from California, Ms. Tauscher, the whole number of the House is adjusted to 433.

The House received a communication from Representative Tauscher wherein she resigns as a member of the House of Representatives effective at close of business today.

The House received a communication from the Honorable Mrs. Tauscher . Mrs. Tauscher submitted her resignation from the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. The resignation was accepted without objection.

ONE MINUTE SPEECHES - The House proceeded with one minute speeches which by direction of the Chair, would be limited to 5 per side of the aisle.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - The Chair designated Ms. Hirono to lead the Members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

9:05 A.M. -
The Chair announced that she had examined the Journal of the last day's proceedings and had approved it. Mr. Murphy (CT) demanded that the question be put on agreeing to the Speaker's approval of the Journal and by voice vote, the Chair announced that the ayes had prevailed. Mr. Murphy(CT) objected to the voice vote based upon the absence of a quorum and the Chair postponed further proceedings on the question of the Speaker's approval of the Journal until later in the legislative day.
