ADJUSTMENT OF WHOLE NUMBER OF HOUSE - Under clause 5(d) of Rule XX, the Chair announced to the House that, in light of the resignation of the gentlewoman from New York, Mrs. Gillibrand, the whole number of the House is adjusted to 433.

The House received a communication from Representative Gillibrand wherein she resigns as a member of the House of Representatives effective on January 26, 2009.

2:02 P.M. -
ONE MINUTE SPEECHES - The House proceeded with one minute speeches.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - The Chair designated Mr. Lujan to lead the Members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
