Skelton Commends 509th Bomb Wing on Successful Inspection

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO) sent a letter to Brigadier General Robert E. Wheeler, Commander of the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base, to commend the 509th Bomb Wing on successfully completing its Nuclear Operational Readiness Inspection.

Air Combat Command Inspectors gave the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base an “excellent” rating after a 12-day Nuclear Operational Readiness Inspection that concluded on October 23, 2009.  The rating means that the 509th Bomb Wing, the U.S. Air Force’s sole B-2 Bomber unit, remains certified to perform its strategic nuclear deterrent mission.

Skelton wrote to General Wheeler, “I commend you and the entire 509th Bomb Wing on your performance during this critical inspection.  Your leadership and your airmen’s professionalism are reflected in the results of this inspection.  As you know, our nation depends on you to meet the highest standards and take the utmost care when working with the weapons in our strategic arsenal.  The men and women of the 509th Bomb Wing have done our nation proud.”

A copy of Skelton’s letter to General Wheeler is attached.
