Rogers: Extra Rx Help Available for
East Alabama Seniors
Social Security offers some seniors additional help for paying drug bills

WASHINGTON, D.C.  -  Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid now offer a program called Extra Help benefits to help lower some East Alabama seniors’ prescription drug costs, Congressman Mike Rogers said today.

Offered as part of the new Medicare prescription drug program, Social Security’s Extra Help initiative helps seniors with low or fixed incomes pay their monthly premiums, annual deductibles, or prescription co-payments.

“This is an important benefit that could help some folks with limited incomes more easily afford their medications,” Rogers said. “I encourage any East Alabama senior who thinks they may be eligible to learn more about the program or call my office for assistance.”

Rogers said interested seniors may learn more about the Extra Help benefits program by calling Social Security’s toll free number at 1-800-772-1213, or visit Social Security’s website at www.ssa.gov.

He said seniors could also call any of his East Alabama offices for more information as well. In Anniston, that number is (256) 236-5655; Opelika at (334) 745-6221; and Montgomery at (334) 277-4210.
