Rogers in Goodwater: Creating Jobs,
Boosting Economy Top Priorities
Congressman Talks with Workers, Managers at Coosa’s Madix

Washington, DC  -  Coosa County’s Madix Corporation opened its doors in 1956 and has since grown to become one of the country’s largest suppliers of shelving for discount stores like Wal-Mart. But the economy hasn’t done much for business, Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Anniston) said yesterday, and although the economy may be picking up, companies like Madix are at times still struggling.

“Working people in Coosa County tell me they’re concerned about their jobs,” Rogers said. “We’ve got to get the economy moving, and I’m going to continue doing whatever I can to help create jobs and improve the situation.”

Since taking office in January, Rogers has toured many of the Third District’s major employers to hear from working people across East Alabama. The message he has heard from workers is the same: help us keep our jobs, but also do everything possible to attract new industry to the region.

“Coosa County has lost a lot of good paying jobs over the years, but hasn’t seen as many new jobs created,” Rogers added. “It’s time we turn that around.”

Rogers said he is developing new ideas for attracting employers to the Third District and has been busy working to improve the state’s economy. Being in Washington has been helpful, he said, because there he can ensure the interests of rural areas like Coosa are heard.

The Third District representative also encouraged Coosa citizens to drop by one of his mobile offices in Rockford or Goodwater, and bring their concerns directly to a member of his staff. These offices are typically open once or twice a month.
