Birds of the Brumidi Corridors: "To make beautiful the Capitol"

Constantino Brumidi did not intend for the birds in the Brumidi Corridors to represent a strict ornithological study. Even when he rendered the birds' physical attributes accurately, Brumidi took artistic liberties, posing the birds in unrealistic flight patterns and in disproportionate sizes. In several instances, he created imaginary birds for purely aesthetic reasons as part of the classical design.
