On February 13, 2009, I voted in favor of the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act to create or save millions of American jobs and get our economy moving
again. I did not make my decision to support the bill lightly. I am always
skeptical of massive spending that drives our deficit further into the
red. But with every day bringing more news of job losses and economic
hardship, we needed to take swift and responsible action.
Now it is time to make sure the economic recovery package does what
it is intended to do, like creating jobs and easing the financial burdens
on Wisconsin businesses and families. While it will take time for the
plan to yield benefits, I will work with both the state and federal government
to make sure that this funding is used as effectively as possible, and
that Wisconsin receives its fair share.
This section of my website is designed to help local governments, businesses
and people across Wisconsin learn more about the recovery package, and
how it can help put Wisconsin’s economy, as well as the nation’s,
back on the right track. I will continue to update this site so people
can monitor the implementation of the recovery package.
