Nine years ago, I voted in favor of the authorization to use military force against those who planned and carried out the horrific terrorist attacks on our nation on September 11, 2001. In the years following 9/11, I have consistently advocated for a global approach to defeating al Qaeda and its affiliates, and opposed policies such as the war in Iraq, and President Obama's military escalation in Afghanistan, which undermine our global fight against terrorism.
I believe that our security interests would be better served by devoting our resources to tracking down and destroying the terrorist networks that attacked and continue to threaten this country. I will continue to work to ensure that Congress provides the resources necessary to combat al Qaeda and its affiliates and protect our national security.
