Congressman Al Green, Ninth District of Texas

Internships

My offices offer college level students from the Ninth Congressional District the opportunity to intern in my Washington, D.C., and Houston district office. Space is limited for these internships, so interested students are encouraged to apply early.

Interns will be in a unique position to gain valuable experience by assisting staff, while learning more about the legislative branch of government from a first-hand perspective. More specifically, they will attend legislative hearings and community meetings, participate in regular office meetings, conduct legislative research, give tours of the Capitol Building to visiting 9th District residents, and respond to constituent inquiries and phone calls.

Interns are responsible for their own travel, housing and living costs. However, lower cost housing designed for interns is available and the extensive transportation system in the area provides a safe, easy and cost efficient alternative for those without a car in the city. Interns often arrange with their universities to receive college credit for their work in a Congressional office; many colleges offer anywhere from 9-15 credit hours.

In Washington there are internships available in the Spring, Fall, and Summer. The Houston district office accepts volunteer interns who serve on a part-time basis to assist with correspondence, casework and other matters, throughout the year.

All interested students should contact my Washington office at 202.225.7508 or my Houston office at 713.383.9234 for more information.
