WASHINGTON—U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.) issued the following statement responding to the latest unemployment numbers released by the Department of Labor showing another rise in the national unemployment rate to 9.8 percent.

“The Democrat’s solution to address the nearly double-digit unemployment rate this week was to raise taxes on job creators,” said Tiahrt. “Instead of extending the Bush tax cuts for everyone, President Obama and his party leaders would rather continue to fool around with partisan games. We need to provide job creators tools to start hiring again so our economy can grow and create jobs from the ground up rather than from the government down. If Washington can learn this lesson, we will begin to see new jobs generated and lower unemployment rates around the country.”
