Congressman Tiahrt speaks with reporters about the competitiveness of Kansas workers along with Sen. Roberts and Sen. Brownback.

America has always been a land of innovative entrepreneurs, hard-working laborers, dedicated professionals and the most productive industries.

Today, our regulatory, judicial and tax environments are impeding businesses from creating new jobs and growing the economy. The burdensome laws and costly regulations that have come out of Washington have forced jobs overseas, and it is time we recognized that fact and do something about it.

Beginning in 2003, Congressman Todd Tiahrt began working on an economic growth initiative to focus on specific areas where the federal government could remove barriers to economic competitiveness for U.S. workers and businesses.

The competitiveness initiative addresses five areas in which U.S. businesses currently face obstacles in productivity and competition abroad – yet have very few options to change or address these barriers. By passing legislative and regulatory reforms within these five categories, Congress and the federal government have the opportunity to work with the private sector in restoring our nation's competitiveness and ensuring the United States remains the land of opportunity.

From this initiative, Todd founded and is Chairman of the House Economic Competitiveness Caucus (EC2). Over the years, EC2 has helped push free-market solutions for economic growth to create a long-term favorable environment in which American businesses can expand and hire more American workers.

EC2 carefully examines issues facing America's ability to compete economically both now and in future years. It works to focus congressional efforts on removing the barriers to American economic competitiveness; develops economic goals for the future; and finds the paths to get there.

The goal of EC2: More high-quality, high-paying jobs and a stronger economy.
