Todd Tiahrt: Stop the Bailouts. What is Your Opinion?

It is time for Congress to stand up and say NO MORE BAILOUTS!

I have introduced a No More Bailouts Resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives calling for Congress to stop spending billions of borrowed taxpayer dollars on bailout after bailout. My resolution states clearly to the American public that Washington has a spending problem, and that the wasteful spending must stop.

Congress needs to cut up its taxpayer credit card, stop borrowing from our children and grandchildren, and redirect its effort toward encouraging private sector re-investment. We need long-lasting solutions that will renew our infrastructure, reform our regulations and reduce our taxes. This will move capital into responsible small businesses and lower the burden on families and business through the tax code. It is time for an end to the bailouts.

The federal government does have an important role to play in helping ensure American workers and businesses are free to prosper. But more massive government spending and new regulatory restrictions in the form of a bailout are not lasting solutions. These taxpayer-funded bailouts are nothing more than a temporary band-aid. We are following a dangerous pattern of throwing hundreds of billions of dollars we do not have at a crisis instead of addressing the root causes of the problem.

It is time for us to put the checkbook aside and get back to fundamentals:

• Stabilize the dollar
• Revise regulations that help workers and businesses prosper again
• Reform Mark to Market accounting standards
• Reduce taxes for business growth and expansion
• Review access to capital

If we focus on these principles we can bring stability to our economy, restore national and international trust in our financial system, and most importantly, create long-lasting, high-quality, high-paying jobs for Americans.
