12/20/10 - In this week's Monday Morning Memo, Congressman Kevin Brady, who is thankful that the tax bomb will not be going off on January 1st, talks about the bills pros and cons and why he launched a fight in the Rules Committee to offset the bill's spending. Brady, who leads the Death Tax Coalition, also discusses the ongoing fight to end the death tax permanently.

Brady is glad that the earmark-laden Omnibus bill was pulled in the senate. He also expresses his support for the troops making counter-insurgency gains in Afghanistan and Pakistan and the need to let the mission dictate any exit strategy.
Finally, he shares his hopes for this Christmas week and his gratitude to the soldiers who will spend Christmas far from home and their families who miss them.

12/13/10 - In this week's Monday Morning Memo, In the week's Monday Morning Memo, Congressman Kevin Brady makes it clear that his top priority is to stop any American from facing a tax hike on January 1st, including small businesses and family farms that could face a 55% death tax if Congress doesn't act. The Congressman also stressed that more cuts in government spending and reforming unemployment insurance will be top priorities when the Republicans take control of the House of Representatives in January. Finally, he addresses rising gasoline prices as the administration continues to stall on drilling permits in the Gulf and the Dream Act which he believes is the wrong priority at a time when we have nearly 10% unemployment.

The Congressman, who met with BOEM Director Michael Bromwich last week, lays out the catch-22 faced by those who want to explore for American energy and why its tough to shrink government when government employee unions are spending so much on campaigns.

One of the reasons is out of control government spending which has increased by 9% this year. A new review from the Joint Economic Committee minority staff shows Congress spent $1.91 for every new $1 in taxes in the 7 major initiatives that President Obama signed into law. Congressman Brady has joined other Republicans in asking the Speaker to ban earmarks from any spending bills passed in the Lame Duck session.
The Congressman also shares his concerns about a new Oil Spill Commission Report that claims the administration muzzled government scientists, the protests at a local hero's funeral and stimulus checks for the dead and incarcerated.

01/12/2009 - In this week’s Monday Morning Memo, Congressman Kevin Brady talks about the honor of being named Leading House Republican on the Joint Economic Committee at this critical time in our country’s economic history. As the new Ranking Republican on the House Ways & Means Subcommittee on Trade, Brady says he will work hard to protect the jobs trade generates, including more than 2.2 million jobs here in Texas.
This coming week, Brady is making his first ever commutation request in hopes President Bush will – before leaving office – commute the sentences of jailed Border Agents Ramos and Compean. Last session, he filed a bill to keep the enhanced sentencing guideline used in the Agents cases from being used against law enforcement officers in the future.
