Willowbrook, IL – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor announced that unemployment rose to 9.8% in November, with 15 million Americans remaining out of work:

           “Today’s grim unemployment numbers just show how urgent it is that Congress provides American taxpayers and small businesses the economic certainty they need to recover.  The games that lame duck Democrats are playing with this $3.9 trillion tax hike are harmful to the nation’s financial stability.  I cosponsored the Taxpayer Certainty Act, which would make the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent for all Americans.  With unemployment numbers above nine percent for the 19th straight month, we cannot continue to ignore the ‘check engine’ light on this economy any longer, and must act immediately to provide relief so the private sector can begin putting people back to work.”
