Chairing the Appropriations Subcommittee on Housing

As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee and chair of the Committee’s Transportation and Housing Subcommittee, I play a major role in determining our federal spending priorities. And because my Subcommittee oversees funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Housing Administration, and the Community Development Block Grant program, I help shape federal housing policy. As chair, I’ve worked to ensure we are investing in proven programs that help families access stable, affordable housing and help break the cycle of homelessness. Among my priorities are:

  • Working to meet the affordable housing needs of low-income and homeless families, veterans, seniors, and people with disabilities.
  • Reforming the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and the government sponsored enterprises, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to help expand responsible homeownership opportunities for all Americans.
