S. 1816 -- Chesapeake Clean Water and Ecosystem Restoration Act of 2009

This bill greatly expands federal resources available for restoring the health of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. It reauthorizes the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Chesapeake Bay Program and gives state and local governments of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed expanded authority, $1.5 billion in new grant authorization, and strong new enforcement tools, to help restore the Bay's health.

S. 2967 -- Boosting Entrepreneurship and New Jobs Act

This bill would spur job creation and strengthen our economy by providing credits and direct loans to small businesses. It provides urgently needed capital to small businesses, establish a refundable small business tax credit for job creation and provide a tax credit for health insurance expenses for companies with up to 25 employees.

S. 1005 -- Water Infrastructure Financing Act of 2009

The bill provides the foundation for our nation's drinking water and wastewater infrastructure. It makes important reforms and increases investment in the Clean Water State Revolving fund, which has not been reauthorized in 22 years, and the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, which has not been reauthorized since 1996. The bill also expands funding eligibility for projects including storm water management, water conservation, or efficiency projects, reuse and recycling projects.

S. 479 - Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails Netwtork Act of 2009

To permanently reauthorize the Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails Network, which helps visitors appreciate the far-reaching role the Chesapeake Bay has had in our region's culture and history. Since first authored, the Network has grown to 150 sites in five states and the District of Columbia.

S.227 - Harriet Tubman National Historical Park and Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park Act of 2009

To honor the life of Harriet Ross Tubman by creating two parks, one in Maryland and one in New York. The parks would honor her life's work in Maryland on the underground railroad and her later years in New York where she was active in the suffrage movement and in providing for the welfare of aged African Americans.

S. 909 - The Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009

To strengthen the ability of federal, state, local, and tribal governments to investigate and prosecute hate crimes based on race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or disability. It also authorizes grants to prevent and deter hate crimes and expands the federal government's ability to monitor hate crimes.

S. 678 - Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Reauthorization Act of 2009

Provides a 5-year reauthorization of juvenile delinquency prevention programs and requires the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to report annually on juveniles held in state and local secure detention and correctional facilities, the treatment of status offenders (e.g., runaways, truants), and evidence based programs for juvenile delinquency prevention. It also expands protections and alternate detention options for juveniles or first-time minor offenders, including the use of community-based services to address the needs of at-risk youth.

S. 495 - Justice Integrity Act of 2009

This bill requires the Attorney General to: (1) establish a pilot program in 10 U.S. districts to promote fairness and the perception of fairness in the federal criminal justice system and to determine whether legislation is required; and (2) designate a U.S. attorney in each of the districts to implement a plan for carrying out such pilot program.

S. 1102, the Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act of 2009

This legislation provides that a federal employee and his or her same-sex domestic partner shall be entitled to benefits available to a married federal employee and his or her spouse. Benefits include federal health insurance, dental and vision benefits, retirement and disability benefits, family, medial and emergency leave, group life insurance, long-term care insurance, compensation for work injuries, and benefits for disability, death, or captivity.

S. 243 - Giving Incentives to Volunteers Everywhere Act of 2009

The GIVE Act provides relief to volunteers who use their personal vehicle for charitable activities. The cost for a gallon of regular gasoline significantly outpaces deduction limits. Under current law, mileage rates for charitable activity are fixed under the Internal Revenue Code at just 14 cents per mile. However, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has discretion is setting the deduction amount for medical, moving and business expenses.

H.R. 2194 - Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act of 2009

This legislation gives the President expanded authority to stop Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons. It explicitly empowers the president to impose new economic sanctions on foreign firms involved in the export of gasoline and other refined petroleum products to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

S. 1 - American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (Amendment)

Provides an $8,000 refundable tax credit to new homebuyers who purchase a home from Jan. 1, 2009 until Nov. 30, 2009.

This provision increases the surety bond ceiling from $2 million to $5 million, making it easier for small business owners to compete for larger contracts.

S. 673 -- The Newspaper Revitalization Act of 2009

This bill would allow newspapers to operate as non-profits, if they choose, under 501(c)(3) status for educational purposes, similar to public broadcasting. Under this arrangement, newspapers would not be allowed to make political endorsements, but would be allowed to freely report on all issues, including political campaigns. Advertising and subscription revenue would be tax exempt and contributions to support coverage or operations could be tax deductible. This bill is not a bailout does not involve any government funding for the newspaper industry.

S. 486 -- Access for All Americans Act of 2009

This measure would increase and extend funding for community health centers and for the National Health Service Corps scholarship and loan repayment program for FY2010-FY2015. It also provides for increased funding for such programs in FY2016 and each subsequent fiscal year. Among other provisions, it also revises provisions allowing community health centers to provide services at different locations.
