Agriculture

Agricultural has always had strong roots in Michigan, and its steady growth has been a driving force in our state’s economy.  With the recent decline of the auto industry, agriculture has become more important to our state than ever.  I am committed to making sure our farmers in Michigan have the resources they need to remain a central part of our state’s economic livelihood. I have also fought to ensure that the EPA does not over-regulate our farmers with burdensome rules that stifle productivity and have little practical use in the real world.  The 2008 Farm Bill was important in stabilizing agricultural prices and making sure programs are in place to keep demand for our state’s commodities and specialty crops high. I continue to work in Congress on policies that ensure energy prices are low and burdensome regulations are out of the way, so that Michigan farmers can get their products to market.
