LOWERING ENERGY COSTS AND PROTECTING OUR ENIRONMENT

• Congressman Cao is an environmentalist who believes that everyone has a duty to protect our natural resources.

• Congressman Cao secured $550,000 for the New Orleans chapter of Global Green USA. Global Green’s Holy Cross Project will provide 23 units of green affordable housing in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans.

• Congressman Cao also secured the grant in support of a Community Development/Sustainable Design and Climate Action Center to promote green construction, energy and water efficiency, indoor air quality, and the creation of green collar job training.

• Congressman Cao voted against the national energy tax that would regulate American families from buying, selling, repairing and restructuring their homes post Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The added expenses imposed would result in massive job losses and put economic recovery in jeopardy.

• Congressman Cao passed an amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill reducing the amount of time the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has to report to Congress from 90 days to 60 days. This provides with proper oversight of this agency and promotes nuclear power as a cornerstone of clean & reliable energy policy amid increased fossil fuel prices and concerns over pollution.

• Cao secured $1,000,000 in support of the Clean Power Energy Research Consortium (CPERC), a joint-venture between the University of New Orleans, Tulane University, Southern University, Louisiana State University, Nicholls State University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and the Louisiana State AgCenter.
