Democrats Ignore Concerns of Governors, Local School Leaders

Use Borrowed Money to Expand Size and Scope of Federal Control over Education

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement on S. 3307, the $4.6 billion child nutrition bill passed by the House today.

“As usual, this lame duck Congress under Democrat rule thinks it knows better than everyone else,” said Congressman Price. “Governors and local school leaders from all across the country have raised serious concerns about the contents of this bill, which uses borrowed money to enlarge old programs, create new ones, and impose heavy burdens on cash-strapped state governments. People at the local level know far better than the federal government how to best meet their children’s needs. Americans are fed up with Washington’s overspending and constant interference with decisions that should be made by families and state and local governments.”

NOTE: The American Association of School Administrators, the Council of the Great City Schools, and the National School Boards Association recently sent a letter to Members of Congress asking them to oppose this legislation.
