Guthrie Comments on Majority's Tax Bill
12/02/10Washington, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) released the following statement, Thursday, December 2, 2010, after voting no on the Majority’s tax bill.
“During this challenging economic time, protecting American families and small businesses from tax increases should remain one of our top priorities. The last thing we need to do is increase taxes on our nation’s job creators, which would be the result of this legislation.
“It is irresponsible to waste time on politically-motivated votes while Congressional leaders are currently negotiating a bipartisan compromise that will prevent the looming tax increases.
“As I speak to Kentuckians about these issues, their desire is clear – Congress should make use of the remaining weeks in this Congress to work together and put in place policies that end uncertainty for small businesses and create opportunities for hard working Americans.
“Preventing tax increases during a recession should be simple and clear-cut, but the Majority has shown they will continue to play political games with serious issues. They had the opportunity to come back to Washington and show they have heard the American people’s message. Instead, they chose to do the exact opposite and it is disappointing.”
