A conservative man of faith and integrity, Congressman Gregg Harper took the Oath of Office in January 2009 to serve the citizens of Mississippi’s Third Congressional District. Gregg has lived in the district he serves since 1972 and currently resides in Pearl with his wife of 31 years, Sidney, and their two children, Livingston and Maggie. The Harpers are active members of Crossgates Baptist Church where Gregg serves as a deacon.
Prior to being sworn-in, his peers elected him as the freshman on the Republican Steering Committee in the House of Representatives. Gregg was also honored to have been appointed by Republican Leader John Boehner as the only freshman to serve on the Committee on House Administration and the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct. Congressman Harper also sits on the Committee on the Judiciary, the Committee on the Budget, and the Joint Committee for the Library of Congress.
Before joining the 111th Congress, Gregg Harper practiced law for twenty-seven years, including serving as the prosecuting attorney for the cities of Brandon and Richland. Gregg is active in his community as a member of both the Pearl and Rankin County Chambers of Commerce. A strong advocate for our Second Amendment rights, he is a Life Member of the National Rifle Association.
Gregg Harper has long been involved as a volunteer in the Republican Party. He has worked for many years to advance the conservative agenda by assisting in local, county and statewide Republican elections, and volunteered as a Republican Observer during the 2000 Bush-Gore recount in Florida. From 2000 to 2007, Gregg served as the Chairman of Rankin County Republican Executive Committee, Mississippi’s largest Republican county.
The son of a former petroleum engineer and an 86-year-old mother who still works two days a week, Gregg learned at a young age the value of hard work and the importance of solid education. Gregg and Sidney are both graduates of Mississippi College, where Gregg studied Chemistry. He then earned his law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1981.
In taking his Congressional Oath of Office on January 6th, 2009, Gregg Harper committed to serve the state of Mississippi and his country with honor and dignity. Congressman Harper desires to accomplish this goal through advocating true conservative values in his work in the U.S. House of Representatives.
