Committee Assignments

As the junior senator of Florida, LeMieux serves on the Armed Services; the Commerce, Science, and Transportation; and the Special Committee on Aging. These committee assignments enable LeMieux to play an integral role in issues facing Florida today.

ARMED SERVICES COMMITTEE

The Armed Services Committee oversees activities associated with the development of weapons systems and military operations, the armed services, military pay, promotion, retirement, and other benefits, and strategic and critical materials necessary for the common defense. Florida has had senatorial representation on the committee continuously since 1991 when Senator Connie Mack became a member.

COMMERCE, SCIENCE, AND TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

The Commerce Committee has jurisdiction over a wide range of issues including communications, highways, aviation, rail, shipping, transportation security, merchant marine, the Coast Guard, fisheries, climate change, disasters, science, space, interstate commerce, tourism, consumer issues, economic development, technology, competitiveness, product safety and insurance.

SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON AGING

The Special Committee on Aging focuses on matters relating to older Americans. The Committee investigates issues and submits its findings and recommendations for legislation to the Senate. In addition, the Committee publishes materials of assistance to those interested in public policies relating to the elderly.
