ROCKEFELLER ATTENDS DEDICATION FOR 14-MILE WATERLINE EXTENSION PROJECT IN LINCOLN COUNTY

Charleston, W.Va. —Senator Jay Rockefeller attended the formal dedication of the 14-mile waterline extension project in Lincoln County, W.Va. The dedication was held at Bonnie’s Pizza on State Route 37 – the first building to receive service on the new line.

“I have fought for water projects like this one since my time in Emmons, and they’re not easy to make happen, but they’re so important,” said Senator Jay Rockefeller. “Access to clean water means so much – it means clean drinking water and a sense of dignity, and also it affects how children’s teeth develop and our overall health. And, it isn’t just a matter of convenience, but also one of safety. Thanks to this extension, residents will also now see new fire hydrants to keep local families safe. Overall, this project is wonderful – and I was so happy to be there.”

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) contributed a $902,000 grant and $1.5 million loan to the project – enabling the upgrade to the existing waterline and construction of the new extension, as well as construction of water storage tanks, a booster pump station, a pressure reducing station, fire hydrants and a new office building.

Important Background

The new waterline extends along Route 37 through the towns of Branchland, Midkiff, Ranger and Khiasville. The project has added and upgraded service to hundreds of new and existing customers along the route.

Rockefeller’s office has been working with local residents and officials on the project since 2003.
