H.R. 5320, the Assistance, Quality, and Affordability (AQUA) Act of 2010, introduced by Chairman Henry A. Waxman, would reauthorize and increase funding for the drinking water state revolving fund (SRF) under the Safe Drinking Water Act.  The drinking water SRF provides an important source of funding for public water systems, which are projected to face a significant increase in investment needs as existing infrastructure ages.

On May 21, 2009, the Energy and Commerce Committee approved H.R. 2454, "The American Clean Energy and Security Act," by a vote of 33 to 25.  This legislation, introduced by Chairman Henry A. Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Edward J. Markey, is a comprehensive approach to America's energy policy that will create millions of new clean energy jobs, save consumers hundreds of billions of dollars in energy costs, enhance America's energy independence, and cut global warming pollution.  The legislation has received wide support from electric utilities; energy companies; manufacturing, industry, and corporate companies; labor unions; and community and environmental organizations. The House of Representatives passed H.R. 2454 by a vote of 219-212 on June 26, 2009.

America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009

On July 14, 2009, House Democratic leaders introduced the America's Affordable Health Choice Act of 2009, H.R. 3200. The three panels with jurisdiction over health policy in the House have been working together as one committee to develop a single bill, H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act, that fulfills President Obama's goals of reducing health care costs, protecting and increasing consumers' choices, and guaranteeing access to quality, affordable health care for all Americans.

H.R. 2749, Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009

On June 17, 2009, the Energy and Commerce Committee approved H.R. 2749, the Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009, by a voice vote.  This legislation grants the Food and Drug Administration the authorities and resources it needs to better oversee the safety of the nation's food supply.  The legislation also increases industry's responsibility for overseeing the safety of their own products and provides FDA with new and enhanced tools to hold them accountable when they fail.  The House of Representatives passed H.R. 2749 by a vote of 283-142 on July 30, 2009.

Today the House of Representatives passed by a vote of 420 to 0 the Public Safety Interoperable Communications Grant Program Extension Act of 2009. This bipartisan legislation, which was introduced in the House by Rep. Jane Harman, would allow the National Telecommunications and Information Agency (NTIA) to extend the deadline for making grants to public safety agencies to improve the interoperability of emergency communications systems
