The Bill recognizes that our nation relies on the men and women who have agreed to serve in the military, to go into harm’s way, and defend us from all manner of threats.  For the last 9 years, we have called on the military to face determined enemies using all manner of tactics in challenging environments.  The intensity and duration of these conflicts have taken a toll on our forces and their families.  The Committee’s recommendation includes measures intended to respond to these impacts.  The 2011 bill totals approximately $671 billion in discretionary spending. The bill total is $12 billion above the FY2010 enacted level and $7 billion below the President's request.
