Klobuchar Honors Life of Norman Borlaug
Says Borlaug fed the world and changed it for the better
September 16, 2009
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar today honored the life of Dr. Norman Borlaug by cosponsoring a Senate resolution commemorating his life and works. Dr. Borlaug, a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, Congressional Gold Medal, Presidential Medal of Freedom and founder of the World Food Prize, is a graduate of the University of Minnesota
“Norman Borlaug did more than feed the world, he changed it for the better,” said Klobuchar. “A half century ago, he started the ‘Green Revolution’ that dramatically increased agricultural production and saved hundreds of millions of lives – but his work didn’t end there. Dr. Borlaug worked every day to end hunger around the world. His legacy will live on in the lives of all the people he saved.
“Dr. Borlaug was part of Minnesota’s proud tradition of scientific innovation. Our state is lucky to have played a part in his life’s journey.”
