Klobuchar Statement on Lincoln Bicentennial

February 12, 2009

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar released the following statement celebrating the 200th anniversary of President Lincoln’s birth.

“Today we celebrate the birth of Abraham Lincoln – a President whose impact we still feel today.  President Lincoln did not shy from the great challenges before him, but met them head on.   During our darkest hours, President Lincoln held our nation together and upheld our values of freedom, liberty and equality.

“Today, as our country again faces enormous challenges, let us remember the spirit of President Lincoln.  Let us stand together to meet the challenges of our time and let us remember the values that make our country great. ”

Today, Klobuchar joined President Obama and Members of Congress at a Lincoln Bicentennial Tribute at the Capitol.
