Klobuchar Calls for Stimulus Package with Long-term Investments in Jobs and Energy
Welcomes bipartisan progress this week
January 24, 2008
Washington, D.C. – Senator Amy Klobuchar welcomed the tentative bipartisan agreement announced Thursday on a plan to stimulate the faltering economy, but said she wants the final package to include provisions that will encourage long-term economic growth, smart energy and infrastructure investments, and the creation of good middle-class jobs.
“Average American families have seen very little benefit from the economic expansion of the last seven years and have been first to feel the effects of the mortgage crisis, higher fuel costs and other shocks to the economy, so it’s imperative that we pass a stimulus package that helps them through this difficult period,” Klobuchar said. “But it’s equally important that we make long-term investments in our economy that produce good jobs and economic benefits long after the $300 checks are spent.”
Klobuchar, who serves on the Joint Economic Committee, said she would push to include investments in needed infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, and alternative energy technology as work on the package continues.
This month in Maple Grove Klobuchar unveiled the American Renewable Energy Act, which is designed to stimulate investment in renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power by extending the federal Production Tax Credit and by setting aggressive Federal standards for use of renewable energy sources.
