Stabenow, Levin Announce More Than $7 Million to Expand Nursing Research Center at Michigan State University

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan State University’s College of Nursing has been awarded $7,479,525 to expand research facilities at the college’s Nursing Research Center.  The funds were made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Research Resources.  The grant will allow the school to construct a three-story building addition to its existing facilities.

“I am delighted to see these funds going to one of Michigan’s important medical research institutions,” Stabenow said. “These funds will not only help the College of Nursing develop the next generation of nurses, but also lead to important advancements in medical research.”

“This grant will further solidify Michigan as a critical center of medical research, serving our state and the nation by training top-notch nurses,” Levin said. “The funding will also create good construction jobs immediately, making it an investment for today and for the future.”

The new three-story building addition will provide expanded, high-quality space for research at the College of Nursing.  The college will be able to relocate, consolidate and expand its research functions to a single location, allowing for an expansion of its capacity to prepare nurse scientists and conduct research in nursing science.
