Rep. Peter Welch this week received his second consecutive ‘A' rating for supporting legislation to help the middle class.

TheMiddleClass.org 2008 Congressional Scorecard, which was released this week by the non-partisan Drum Major Institute for Public Policy, hailed Welch's record of working to create jobs and rebuild the middle class. The organization tallied votes relating to consumer protection, college affordability, job creation and children's health care.

"As we continue to weather this devastating economic storm, it is more important than ever that we support our middle class," Welch said. "We must remain focused on creating quality jobs, reducing the cost of health care, education and energy, and ensuring all Americans have the opportunity to get ahead."

Amy Traub, Director of Research at the Drum Major institute, said, "Middle class means more than middle income, so we analyze legislation that directly impacts education, healthcare, economic security, and other tangible aspects of a middle class standard of living."
