System Spotlights

University of Georgia student named 2011 Rhodes Scholar

The number of University of Georgia Rhodes Scholars increased to 22, when Tracy Yang of Macon was named Nov. 20. The UGA Honors student has been awarded a 2011 Rhodes Scholarship to attend England’s Oxford University. She plans to pursue a master’s of science degree in global health science. Yang, also a 2010 Truman Scholar, plans to graduate from UGA in May with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology.

Learning Management System Transition Task Force

Dr. Susan Herbst, Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer for the University System of Georgia recently appointed the Director of the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning at Georgia Tech, Dr. Donna Llewellyn, as chair of a system-wide task force to select a new learning management system for the USG designed to meet the 21st century needs of students and faculty.

New Core Curriculum Approved

The Board of Regents recently approved a new core curriculum policy for all USG students that will better prepare graduates for a global society. The new policy also enhances the USG’s transfer guarantee of core courses and strengthens the assessment of student learning in the Core. Implementation of the new core curriculum is scheduled for fall 2011 with implementation at two-year institutions in fall 2012 allowing them to align their revised core curricula with four-year institutions.
