(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement today on Sunday’s elections in Haiti:
“In the midst of the many daunting challenges facing Haiti today, this Sunday’s elections are an important opportunity to demonstrate Haiti’s commitment to democracy. I urge the Haitian government to continue to make every effort to ensure that this weekend’s proceedings are carried out in a peaceful, free, fair and transparent manner.
“Haiti’s incoming leaders face tremendous challenges in the coming months and years. Effective, good governance and the rule of law will be a must for Haiti’s successful recovery.
“I urge all Haitians to exercise their right to vote this Sunday to help guide the direction of their country’s future.”
